Mykolas Alekna Betters His Father's Olympic Record In Men's Discus Throw

Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna achieved a special feat in his Olympic debut in Paris.

The 21-year-old broke his father’s record in the discus throw final.

Mykolas logged a 69.97m throw in his second attempt to bag the silver medal.

His father Virgilijus set an Olympic record with a 69.89m throw at Athens 2004.

Jamaica’s Roje Stona later surpassed Mykolas in the final of the Paris Games.

Stona clinched the gold medal after registering 70m in the fourth round.

Australia’s Matthew Denny settled for bronze with his best throw of 69.31m.

Mykolas’ brother Martynas also featured in the discus throw event in Paris.

Virgilijus’ elder son, however, crashed out of the qualifying round.

Virgilijus Alekna won two gold and one bronze medal in his Olympic career.
