NASA is ready to launch National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) GOES-U satellite to enhance Earth's weather observation and environmental monitoring. Here’ all you need to know ahead of the launch.

NASA & Elon Musk-owned SpaceX are targeting a two-hour launch window that opens at 5:16 pm EDT on June 25 (2:46 am IST on June 26).

WHEN

The mission launches on a Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

WHERE

The fourth & final satellite in GOES-R Series, GOES-U will enhance the meteorologists’ ability to monitor and forecast weather, ocean, and environmental dynamics in real-time.

PURPOSE

The seven instruments on the satellite will provide advanced imagery and atmospheric measurements of the Earth’s Western Hemisphere.

PURPOSE

It will give real-time mapping of lightning activity as well as advanced monitoring of solar activity and space weather.

PURPOSE

GOES satellites are given a letter before launch and a number after reaching geostationary orbit. Once GOES-U successfully launches and completes its on-orbit checkout, NOAA will rename it GOES-19.

NAMING

Live coverage of the launch will start at 4:15 pm EDT (1:45 am IST) and will be available on NASA+, the agency’s website, and other digital channels.
