Navratri 2023: 9 colours of Maa Durga

Navratri is upon us and people all across the country are looking forward to mark the 9-day festival honouring Maa Durga with much fervour and enthusiasm. Just like the 9 forms of Maa Durga, devotees also wear 9 colours that are believed to be auspicious during Navratri and represent the various forms of Goddess Durga.

Maa Shailputri (Orange): She is worshipped on the first day of Navratri and people wear orange to represent energy, courage and new beginnings.

Maa Brahmacharini (White): On the second day of Shardiya Navratri, devotees worship Maa Brahmacharini, who wears white, the colour of purity and peace.

Maa Chandraghanta (Red): The third day is for Maa Chandraghanta who wears red and symbolises strength, power and positivity.

Maa Kushmanda (Royal Blue): Wearing royal blue on the fourth day of Navratri invokes the blessings of Maa Kushmanda and symbolises royalty, dignity and elegance.

Maa Skandmata (Yellow): People honour Maa Skandmata on the fifth day of Navratri by wearing yellow, the colour of joy, optimism and brightness.

Maa Katyayani (Green): The colour of Maa Katyayani, green signifies growth, balance, harmony and ensures peace and tranquillity in life.

Maa Kalaratri (Grey): The seventh day is dedicated to Maa Kalaratri, the fierce form of Maa Durga. And grey represents strength, mystery and resilience.

Maa Mahagauri (Purple): Devotees worship Goddess Mahagauri on the eighth day and wear purple to invoke her blessings. Purple is associated with divinity, nobility and luxury.

Maa Siddhidatri (Peacock Green): The ninth day is dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri and her favourite colour, peacock green, is a symbol of the beauty of the universe, elimination of ignorance and attainment of divine knowledge and wisdom.
