The new Parliament building is designed by HCP Design, Planning and Management Pvt Ltd and constructed by Tata Projects for an approximate cost of Rs 1,200 crore,

The new building has 3 ceremonial entrances on three sides – Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar and Karma Dwar – for the President, the Vice-President, the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Prime Minister. The entrance for VIPs, MPs and visitors will be separate.

Spanning across a 64,500 square-metre built up area, the building is eco-friendly, & is supposed to reduce electricity consumption by 30%. The building is supposed to function for the next 150 years & is also earthquake safe.

The Rajya Sabha Chamber has a built-up area of 3,220 square metres, with seating for 384 individuals. 

The Lok Sabha Chamber is spread across an expansive area of 3,015 square metres, with space for 888 seats. During joint sessions, it can accommodate an increased capacity of up to 1,224 seats. 

The building houses a Constitution Hall, lounge, dining hall and library for the MPs, a central courtyard with a banyan tree, six new committee rooms and 92 rooms as offices for the Council of Ministers.

The new Lok Sabha chamber is peacock themed, while the Rajya Sabha chamber is lotus themed. In both the houses of the Parliament, a single bench will accommodate two MPs, with each having a touch screen on desk.

The construction materials for the building has been sourced from various parts of the country, including sandstone from Dholpur, granite from Jaisalmer, wood from Nagpur and craftsmen from Mumbai, hand-knotted carpets by Bhadohi weavers from Uttar Pradesh.

The Sengol, made by Vummidi Bangaru Chetty, under the supervision of the seer of Thiruvaduthurai Atheenam, a prominent mutt in Tamil Nadu has been installed in the Lok Sabha chamber near the Speaker’s podium.
