Five new sports proposed for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Cricket is one of the high profile inclusions for the Los Angeles Games

Cricket has been played once before at the Olympics, in 1900, when England and France played a solitary match

Cricket will be played in a T20 format at the Olympics for both men and women

Flag football, a five-on-five non-contact sport variant of American football, has also been approved

Lacrosse, a popular sport in the US, has been chosen to appeal to the youngsters

Lacrosse is likely to be packaged in a fast-paced, high-scoring “sixes” event which is staged over four eight-minute quarters

Squash has long lobbied for a part in the Olympics but will be included only for the first time

Baseball and Softball featured at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 but were removed from Paris Olympics

The five new sports will now be reviewed and ratified at the IOC Session in Mumbai on 15 October
