Pooran scored 97 for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
His 43-ball innings against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots featured 9 sixes.
It resulted in Pooran shattering Gayle’s record for most sixes in a calendar year.
The wicketkeeper-batter has slammed 139 sixes across competitions so far this year.
Pooran has played in several franchise tournaments this year including the IPL.
In 2015, Gayle hit 135 sixes in his 36 appearances across T20 matches.
Gayle recorded 121 and 116 maximums in 2012 and 2011.
In 2016, Gayle hit 101 sixes and the next year, his tally was 101.
Another West Indies star Andre Russell struck 101 maximums in 2019.
