Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi missed out on the Ballon d’Or shortlist in 2024.
This is the first time since 2003 when neither of the two has been nominated.
Messi is the reigning Ballon d’Or winner and has won it 8 times.
Ronaldo last won the award in 2018 for the 5th time.
The duo were not named in the list of 30 players running for this year’s trophy.
Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane are the frontrunners.
Vinicius and Bellingham won LaLiga and the Champions League in the 2023-24 season with Real Madrid.
Haaland led the Premier League in terms of goals scored for Manchester City.
Kane did the same in the Bundesliga representing Bayern Munich.
The winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or award will be revealed on October 28 in Paris.
