Sri Lanka off to a flying start

The Sri Lankan openers, Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka managed to get off to a flying start with the pair reaching a 125 run parternship and both reached their half-centuries. 

Skipper Cummins Leads From the Front

The Aussie captain, Pat Cummins finally got the breakthrough as he dismissed both openers relatively quickly giving the Australian side the edge. 

Zampa Finally Arrives

Adam Zampa finally arrives into the game as he dismissed the Sri Lankan skipper Kusal Mendis before he was able to deal damage. He also dismissed Samarawickrama quickly too. He finished with four wickets in the match.

Sri Lanka's Batting Collapse

After the big opening stand, the rest of the batters were only able to add up a mere 52 runs as the batting collapsed massively. 

Starc and Maxwell Clean Up

The pair of Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell cleaned up the rest of Sri Lanka's batting as they set a total of 209 runs.

Dilshan Madushanka managed to give Sri Lanka a very good start as he dismissed the experienced David Warner quickly.

Mitch Marsh took the onus on himself to get Australia back in the game as he managed to score a quick 50, his first in the World Cup giving Australia the momentum.

Mitch Marsh looked to get two runs but unfortunately miscalculated the position of the fielder and was eventually run-out after a 56 run partnership. 

Labuschagne-Inglis Continue On

The pair of Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis managed to continue on and bring up a 76 run stand with Inglis getting to his first World Cup 50. 

Maxwell-Stoinis Finish Things Off

Maxwell managed to get going as soon as he came in as he smacked four boundaries off Wellalage and Stoinis scored the winning runs to give Australia their first win in the World Cup 2023.
