Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem was on Tuesday rewarded with 10 million rupees by the Punjab government for winning gold at the Paris Olympics.
He also received a brand-new car from the Punjab govt for clinching Pak's first gold medal since the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz handed him the cash prize and the car keys when she visited his family in his village, Mian Chunnu.
The car has a special number plate of 92.97, which is the Olympic record-making distance at which Nadeem threw the javelin in the Paris Olympics on August 8.
Actor Ali Zafar also announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he will be honouring Arshad with Rs 10 lakh for his gold medal win.
However, Arshad receiving another car offer for his historic feat from a Pakistani-American businessman, Ali Sheikhani, got fans fuming.
Pakistani activist Syed Zafar Abbas Jafri reportedly announced the news of Sheikhani gifting a Suzuki Alto to Arshad for winning the Olympic gold through a video post.
Arshad's fans are criticising this move, as they feel the star Olympian deserves way more than just a 'cheap' Alto.
An X user wrote, “This is an insult…he deserves BMW or Audi.” Another wrote, "It is your first Gold! Get something worthy of it!”
