India At Olympics Over The Years

India won a total of 35 medals at the Olympics. Here's a look back at the top Indian performances over the years.

India boasts 10 Olympic gold medals, eight of which the men's hockey team won. The Indian hockey team won six successive gold medals from 1928-1956.

The Indian hockey team won bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after 41 years. There are high hopes from them this year as well.

Shooter Abhinav Bindra became India's first-ever individual Olympic gold medalist in Beijing, in 2008. He won the men's 10- meter air rifle event, securing 700.5 points.

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured gold in men's javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics. It was India's third and only other athletics medal at the Olympics after 121 years.

Second individual gold

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021) saw India bring home seven medals- its best-ever haul at an Olympics.

Mirabai Chanu (silver in weightlifting), Lovlina Borgohain (bronze in boxing), PV Sindhu (bronze in badminton), Indian men's hockey team (bronze), Ravi Dahiya (silver in wrestling), Bajrang Punia (bronze in wrestling), and Neeraj Chopra (gold in javelin throw).

Karnam Malleswari clinched the first medal (bronze) for India in boxing in the 2000 Sydney Games.
