The Indian men’s hockey team clinched bronze at the Paris Olympics 2024 with their 2-1 win over Spain on Thursday.
With the win, the Indian hockey unit claimed its 13th Olympic medal in the sport- 8 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze.
Skipper Harmanpreet Singh's two goals powered India to a consecutive-year Olympic medal win for the first time in 52 years. They clinched bronze in 2020 too.
India started on an attacking note, pressing up high across the halfway line and piling the pressure on Spain’s defense with menacing runs.
Sukhjeet Singh took India’s first swipe at the goal in the 6th minute of the first quarter, but could not turn it into a goal.
Spain skipper Marc Miralles opened the scoring, following which the Indian captain's two goals led his side to victory.
With that, Harmanpreet Singh finished as the leading scorer (9 goals) in Paris Olympics and star goalkeeper PR Sreejesh retired on a high note.
With the hockey team's triumph, India’s medal tally in the 2024 Olympics went up to 4, with all 4 being bronzes so far.
