Paris Olympics 2024: Sports in which India have won medals

Less than a month remains for the Paris Olympics to get underway with the latest edition of the world’s biggest sporting event getting underway on 26 July in the French capital

Before the Olympics get underway in Paris, we take a look at the sports in which India have won medals

Athletics

India have won a total of three medals in Athletics — Norman Pritchard winning men’s 200m and men’s 200m hurdles silver in Paris 1900 and Neeraj Chopra winning men’s javelin throw gold in Tokyo 2020

Badminton

India have won three medals in badminton — PV Sindhu winning silver and bronze in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 respectively and Saina Nehwal winning bronze in London 2012

Boxing

India have also won three medals in Boxing — a bronze each for Vjiender Singh (Beijing 2008), MC Mary Kom (London 2012 and Lovlina Borgohain (Tokyo 2020)

Field Hockey

Few teams have dominated a sport at an event the way the Indian men’s team has bossed field hockey at the Olympics, winning eight gold — six of them on the trot — along with a silver and three bronze medals

Shooting

India have won four medals in shooting including a historic gold to Abhinav Bindra in Beijing 2008 — the first individual gold medal won by an Indian

Tennis

Leander Paes won India’s only Olympic medal in tennis — a men's singles bronze in Atlanta 1996

Weightlifting

India have won two medals in weightlifting — Karnam Malleswari (Sydney 2000) and Mirabai Chanu (Tokyo 2020) winning women’s 69kg bronze and women’s 49kg silver respectively

Wrestling

India have won seven medals in wrestling. KD Jadhav won bronze in Helsinki 1952 and and Sushil Kumar winning two of them — bronze in Beijing 2008 and silver in London 2012
