The 2024 Paris Paralympics will commence on Aug 28. Star athletes Sumit Antil and Bhagyashree Jadhav have been picked as Indian flagbearers for opening ceremony.
”Antil and Bhagyashree have been consistent performers over the years,” the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) chief Devendra Jhajharia told PTI.
Sumit Antil is the Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist and a two-time world champion in men's javelin throw.
The Haryana boy secured the Paralympics gold with a world record throw of 68.55 metres in the F64 category.
He then won a gold at the World Para Championships this year and shattered his own record at the Asian Para Games with a throw of 73.29m.
Shot-putter Bhagyashree Jadhav, competing in the F34 category, is Asian Para Games 2022 silver medallist.
Recently in the 2024 World Para-Athletics Championships, she clinched another silver and is a medal hope at Paralympics'24.
