Pitbull, Akita and more: India bans 23 dangerous dog breeds for public safety

In a move to ensure public safety, the government has recommended a ban on 23 dog breeds considered dangerous. Here’s the full list:

Pitbull Terrier

Known for their strength and loyalty, but can be aggressive if not properly trained.

Tosa Inu

A rare Japanese breed, powerful and alert, requires experienced handling.

American Staffordshire Terrier

Strong and muscular, can be stubborn and needs early socialisation.

Fila Brasileiro

A large working breed from Brazil, known for its tracking ability, but can be protective.

Dogo Argentino

A large, white, muscular dog breed from Argentina, bred for hunting, can be assertive.

American Bulldog

Powerful and athletic, can be determined and needs firm training.

Boerboel

A large, mastiff breed from South Africa, protective and territorial, requires early socialisation.

Kangal Shepherd Dog

A Turkish breed, known for its strength and protective instincts, needs experienced handling.

Central Asian Shepherd Dog

Ancient breed known for its protective instincts, requires firm training.

Caucasian Shepherd Dog

Extremely protective, this breed from the Caucasus Mountains requires experienced handling.

South Russian Shepherd Dog

A large, long-haired breed, known for its independence and protective nature.

Tornjak, Sarplaninac

Both are Balkan breeds, known for their protective instincts and require experienced handling.

Japanese Tosa & Akita

Tosa and Akita: Both Japanese breeds, known for their strength and loyalty, but can be aggressive.

Mastiffs

A large and powerful breed, known for its protective instincts, requires early socialisation.

Rottweiler

Known for its strength and guarding instincts, can be assertive and needs firm training.

Terriers

A diverse group, some breeds can be stubborn and feisty, requiring early socialisation.

Rhodesian Ridgeback

Originally bred for lion hunting, this breed can be independent and strong-willed.

Wolf Dogs

Hybrid breed with wild instincts, can be unpredictable and requires experienced handling.

Canario

Also known as Presa Canario, this Spanish breed is powerful and can be assertive.

Akbash

A Turkish breed, known for its protective instincts and requires experienced handling.

Moscow Guard

A large breed developed for guarding, can be protective and requires firm training.

Cane Corso

An Italian breed, known for its strength and protective instincts, requires early socialisation.

Bandog

A type of mixed breed, usually strong and protective, requires experienced handling.
