PM Modi's Visit to Kaziranga:  All Things You Need to Know

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam and the Kaziranga National Park on March 8 and 9, 2024. Here's everything you need to know about the national park.

Located in the northeastern state of Assam, Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the largest population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros in the world.

It is spread across the floodplains of the Brahmaputra River, the park also boasts a diverse range of wildlife, including tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, and various bird species.

It houses two of the largest snakes globally, the reticulated python and rock python, along with the longest venomous snake, the king cobra.

In 1904, Mary Curzon persuaded her husband, Lord Curzon, to protect the rhinoceros in Kaziranga. This led to the establishment of Kaziranga National Park on June 1, 1905.

Kaziranga boasts the world's largest populations of the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros, wild Asiatic water buffalo, and eastern swamp deer.
