The ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ is a rooftop solar initiative with a ₹75,021 crore investment, offering up to 300 units of free electricity every month. Here’s all you need to know about the new scheme.
The government has increased the subsidy under the scheme by around 67% compared to the previous rooftop solar scheme.
According to MNRE data, a subsidy of ₹18,000 per kW up to 3 kW was being given under the previous solar rooftop scheme. In addition, a subsidy of ₹9,000 per kW was being given from 4 kW to 10 kW.
Under the new solar rooftop scheme, the minimum subsidy for anyone installing a 1 kW rooftop solar system will be ₹30,000, up from ₹18,000 earlier.
For those installing 2 kW systems, the new subsidy will be ₹60,000, which was earlier capped at ₹36,000 (₹18,000 per kW).
Families installing 3 kW rooftop solar system will get a subsidy of ₹78,000 instead of ₹54,000 under the old scheme.
In the new scheme, the total subsidy for systems larger than 3 kW has been fixed at ₹78,000.
To join the PM Surya Ghar scheme, one can visit www.pmsuryaghar.org.in and select their state and electricity distribution company, and provide their personal details for registration.
