Ranji Trophy: Tanmay Agarwal Records Joint-Fourth Highest FC Score by an Indian Batter

Producer: Peuli Bakshi

Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal hit an incredible triple century in the Ranji Trophy match vs Arunachal Pradesh, on Jan 27, 2024 (Saturday).

The 28-year-old opener scored 366 runs off just 181 balls, at an astounding strike rate of 202.21, with 34 fours and 26 sixes.

Agarwal’s score makes him the joint-fourth-highest first-class run-scorer for India, as he drew level with Maturi Venkat Sridhar.

Sridhar previously made the record of 366 runs for Hyderabad, when he scored it against Andhra at Secunderabad back in 1994.

Only Sanjay Manjrekar’s 377 for Bombay vs Hyderabad (1991), Prithvi Shaw’s 397 for Mumbai vs Assam (2023) and Bhausaheb Nimbalkar’s 443* for Maharashtra vs Kathiawar (1948) is above Agarwal’s efforts in the first-class circuit.

Legend Brian Lara holds the record for the highest score in a first class fixture with his 501* for Warwickshire vs Durham, at Birmingham in 1994.

Hanif Mohammed’s 499 for Karachi vs Bahawalpur (1959) is the 2nd highest score, followed by Sir Don Bradman’s 452* for New South Wales vs Queensland (1930).

With the help of Tanmay Agarwal’s impressive knock, Hyderabad won by an innings and 187 runs. He was also named Player of the Match.
