The Supreme Court on Tuesday rapped YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for his “highly irresponsible" remarks on ‘sex with parents’ on comedian Samay Raina’s now-deleted web show ‘India’s Got Latent’.

A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh delivered a stinging rebuke of Allahbadia’s remarks while hearing Allahbadia’s plea seeking to club FIRs filed across various states, including Maharashtra and Assam.

Appearing for Allahbadia, advocate Abhinav Chandrachud said there are death threats against him. The Supreme Court bench came down heavily on the counsel, saying, “Are you defending the kind of statements made?"

Allahbadia’s counsel told the court that he was personally “disgusted" by the remarks made on Raina’s show, but whether it rises to the level of criminal offence is another question.

To this, the court asked, “What is the parameter of obscenity? This is Indian society. We would like to know, in this country, if this is not obscenity, then what is?"

“There is a height of irresponsibility. They believe that since they’ve become popular they can say anything. There’s dirt in his mind. Why should the court favour such a person?" the court further said.

When Chandrachud cited threats of acid attacks against one of the co-accused and another threat of cutting off Allahbadia’s tongue, the court said, “If you can seek cheap publicity by using abusive language, this person extending threat is also seeking publicity."

“The words you have chosen, parents will be ashamed, daughters and sisters will be ashamed. The entire society will feel ashamed. The perverted mind. These are the levels of depravity you and your henchmen have gone. We have a judicial system, bound by the rule of law. If there are threats, the law will take its course," further said Justice Kant.
