India will witness a rare Super Blue Moon on August 19, 2024.
This Super Blue Moon graces the night sky during Raksha Bandhan, adding an extra touch of magic.
This Super Blue Moon is the first of four consecutive super moons, with the next ones on September 18, October 17, and November 15.
A super moon occurs when the full moon is at its closest point to Earth, making it appear larger and brighter.
Super moons can appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual!
A Blue Moon refers to the rare occasion when two full moons appear in the same month. Despite the name, the moon doesn’t actually turn blue.
The combination of a super moon and blue moon happens once every 10-20 years. The next chance is in January and March 2037.
The Super Blue Moon will be visible across India from August 19 to early August 21, with the best view at moonrise on August 19. It will peak on August 20 at 11:56 PM IST, according to NASA.
