Rough Skies: 8 most turbulent flight routes in the world

Santiago (Chile) - Santa Cruz (Bolivia) This flight route faces high turbulence due to planes crossing over several water bodies and mountains, especially the Andes.

Almaty (Kazakhstan) - Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) Although the route is within the same country, it experiences high turbulence due to jet stream activity and mountainous terrain.

Lanzhou (China) - Chengdu (China) This route contains the most turbulent flights because of the mountainous regions lying in the area. Further turbulence can be due to varying weather conditions.

Milan (Italy) - Geneva (Switzerland)  The main reason for this route to be turbulent is because it is of the presence of the highest mountain range in Europe - the Alps.

Osaka (Japan) - Sendai (Japan) This route is frequently turbulent due to Japan's dynamic weather and topography.

Lanzhou (China) - Xianyang (China) Similar to other Chinese routes, turbulence is an issue in this route as well. The reason for the turbulence is surrounding mountainous regions which along with turbulence also cause danger to the flights.

Milan (Italy) - Zurich (Switzerland) Just like the route between Milan and Geneva, this route too contains turbulence. The main reason for this is the presence of the Alps on the route.

Xianyang (China) - Chongqing (China) China is a country that contains vast geographical land along with different mountains and water bodies. This can lead to turbulent flights.
