Schengen visa changes: Indian travellers gain easier access to Europe

- Introduction of a new visa scheme called 'cascade' for Indian citizens applying for Schengen visas.

- Eligibility for long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas with extended validity.

- To qualify for a 2-year visa, individuals must have obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous 3 years.

- Possibility of receiving a 5-year visa if the passport has sufficient remaining validity.

- Holders granted travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals during the validity period.

- Schengen visas allow free travel within 29 European countries, including 25 EU member states and four non-EU countries.

- Permit short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

- Visas are not purpose-bound but do not grant the right to work within the Schengen area.

- Simplify travel within Europe by requiring only one visa for multiple countries within the Schengen area.
