Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe created history on Saturday (July 6) by defeating Shubman Gill-led India by 13 runs in the first game of the five-match series.
India were 4 down for 28 in the Powerplay with captain Gill still in the middle, fighting against the odds and scoring 31 runs.
Another instance where India lost the series opener against Zimbabwe was under MS Dhoni in the year 2016.
Batting first Team Zimbabwe put up a good total of 170, powered by Elton Chigumbura's 54 (26). India lost the match by just 2 runs.
Rahane became the first Indian captain to lose a T20I match against Zimbabwe in July 19, 2015.
Zimbabwe posted a total of 145 and defended it to defeat India by 10 runs. Robin Uthappa scored 42 off 25, but India lost due to lack of stable partnership.
Those three T20Is were the only ones India lost against Zimbabwe in their 10-time T20I clash.
