‘SIM Swap’ Scam:
Few Missed Calls And Money Gone
A new scam called ‘SIM Swap’ is on the rise.
This involves issuing victim’s duplicate SIM card, and then using it to get OTPs, etc.
Scammers first steal your personal information; then issue new SIM by pretending to be you.
This recently happened to a lawyer in Delhi after she received three missed calls.
Later, she received a text that her money was deducted from her bank.
The victim never shared any OTP, but did share her address.
Police found phishing links, and unsolicited UPI registration texts on her phone.
To be safe, immediately inform telecom operator if your SIM stops working.
Use SIM card lock to secure it.
