South-west monsoon will enter mainland India by June 1

The first monsoon rain in Kerala was on June 5 last year. This year, the Indian Meteorological Department expects the first rain by June 1.

The monsoon usually hits the coast of Kerala first. This time, it will reach Andaman and Nicobar islands before it reaches Kerala.

The first monsoon rain in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is expected on May 19.

Thunderstorms and pre-monsoon showers will precede the rainy season in India.

The Indian Met Dept has forecast light showers in North Bengal over the next few days.

Cyclonic storms will hit South Karnataka, and spread to parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

Marathwada region may witness thunder, lightning, and light-to-heavy rainfall until May 18.

Temperatures will spike, along with humidity, in the eastern part of the country.

Kolkata is expected to witness a maximum temperature of 37 degrees in the next few days.
