Sri Lanka debutant Milan Rathnayake has scripted a new Test record against England.
Rathnayake played a fine knock of 72 on the opening day of the first Test.
He has now become the highest scorer at the number 9 spot in men's Test cricket.
With this, he managed to break the 41-year-old Test record.
The previous record was held by India's Balwinder Sandhu.
Sandhu had scored 71 against Pakistan in Hyderabad back in 1983.
Rathnayake’s brilliant knock against England comprised 6 boundaries and 2 sixes.
Sri Lanka posted 236 runs in the first innings of the Test.
Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir bagged 3 wickets each for England in the first innings.
England finished the day’s play at 22 without losing a wicket.
