SRK to Ranbir, Bollywood actors who have Pakistani origins

Ranbir Kapoor's family hails from what is now Pakistan. The Kapoor patriarch, Prithviraj Kapoor, was born in Lyallpur (now Faisalabad), Punjab, and later moved to Peshawar, where Ranbir’s grandfather, Raj Kapoor, was born.

Shah Rukh Khan’s father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, was from Peshawar. He was an ethnic Pathan who fought in the Indian independence movement and spoke Hindko at home.

Amitabh Bachchan’s mother, Teji Bachchan, was born in Lyallpur, British India (present-day Faisalabad, Pakistan). Her family roots trace back to this now-major city in Pakistan.

Sanjay Dutt’s father, Sunil Dutt, was born in Khurd Village of Jhelum district in Pakistan's Punjab. Sanjay’s mother, Nargis Dutt (born Fatima Rashid), was also born in Pakistan.

Born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan in Peshawar, Dilip Kumar’s birthplace is now in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He belonged to a Hindko-speaking Awan family before moving to Mumbai in the late 1930s.

Govinda’s father, Arun Kumar Ahuja, was born in Gujranwala, Punjab, now a part of Pakistan. Post-partition, he moved to Mumbai, where Govinda was born.

The legendary actor Amrish Puri was born in Lahore in 1932, which is now part of Pakistan. His family was Punjabi-speaking, and he later moved to Shimla for higher studies.
