West Indies became the first team of Group C to book their spot in the Super 8 with a 13-run win against New Zealand on June 12 (Thur) at Trinidad & Tobago.
West Indies did not have a great start as they lost their openers early. Then Nicholas Pooran's 17 off 12 got them going.
Sherfane Rutherford's player of the match knock of 68 off 39 took Windies to a decent target of 149/9.
Andre Russell started well with 14 (7) but was kept from scoring big by Trent Boult, who registered 3/16 (4).
New Zealand had a shaky start with the top and middle order falling fast. Then Glenn Phillips' 40 off 33 brought them back to the chase.
Phillips was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph, who registered commendable figures of 4/19 (4). Gudakesh Motie also picked up three.
Mitchell Santner's 21* off 12 kept their hopes alive but with the fall of wickets from the other side, NZ could only make 136 in 20 overs.
