It is made with channa and urad dals, infused with the flavor of tamarind pulp. Try this simple tamarind rice recipe at home.

Ingredients Rice (cooked) - 2 cups Tamarind (made into pulp) - 1/2 cup Whole red chillies - 2 Curry leaves - A sprig Asafoetida - 1 tsp Mustard seeds - 1 tsp Chana dal - 2 tsp Urad dal (dhuli) - 1 tsp MNethi seeds - 1/4 tsp Red chillli powder - 1/2 tsp Peanuts - 1 tbsp Salt - 1 tsp Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp Gur - 1/4 tsp Oil - For cooking

Step 1 Heat oil and roast peanuts along with both the dals. Now, add curry leaves and whole red chillies. Add salt, hing, red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Saute them well.

Step 2 Add gur to the cooked mix and saute well. Now add the tamarind pulp to the mix and saute. Add cooked rice to the mix.

Step 3 Saute it well so the rice is completely mixed with the cooked gravy.

 Step 4 Serve hot, garnished with tamarind.
