Telangana Assembly Polls: How people voted in 2018
Telangana will hold elections for 119 Assembly seats in a single phase on 30 November. The majority required to form the government in the state is 60 seats.
Telangana has been ruled by Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s K Chandrashekar Rao since its formation in 2014. And he is eyeing a long haul in the youngest state of India in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The main Opposition party in the state is the Congress, while the BJP is aiming to establish a name for itself in the southern state following its failure in neighbouring Karnataka.
Telangana has a total of 3.17 crore voters, and the ballots will be counted on 3 December.
In 2018, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), now the BRS, swept the elections with a big majority and won 88 seats.
The Congress came in second with 19 seats, AIMIM got seven, while the BJP just got one.
The BRS received 46.8 per cent of the votes, while Congress received 28.4 per cent of the same.
Around 16 candidates won with margins of fewer than 5,000 votes, including 10 TRS and six Congress candidates.
Khammam district remained BRS's lowest performing district, with the party winning only one segment of the 10. BRS also did not fare well in Hyderabad, with AIMIM winning seven seats.
