1) Bhangra (Punjab)

Bhangra, the dance of the state of Punjab, is a folk dance where people do it with energy and with synchroneity. This dance is done at many weddings in India for enjoyment and celebration, but traditionally it was done to celebrate the harvest season while wearing colourful dhotis, kurtas, and turbans.

2) Ghoomar (Rajasthan)

Ghoomar, the dance of Rajasthan is a graceful folk dance, that is performed by the Rajasthani women during weddings and festivals. In this dance, women wear colourful Ghabra or long skirts that give an elegant twirl while dancing. The rhythmic swaying of the ghagra skirts creates a mesmerizing display of color.

3) Garba (Gujarat)

Garba is a popular folk dance of Gujarat that is performed nine days long during the festival of Navratri. In this dance, both men and women wear colourful chaniya cholis (skirts and blouses) with jewellery. The dance is done on catchy songs with rhythmic clapping and colourful dandiya sticks.

Lavani folk dance of Maharashtra, done with high-energy dance, is known for its captivating music, fast tempo, and expressive movements. Women dancers do this dance by wearing saree wear that in rich colours with heavy jewellery. The vibrant costumes and the powerful steps make Lavani a eye capturing dance.

5) Bihu (Assam)

Bihu is a vibrant folk dance of Assam that is performed on the Bihu festival which is celebrated during the Assamese New Year. Dancers wear colourful mekhela chador ( wrap around skirt and veil) and dhoti.

7) Theyyam (Kerala)

Theyyam is a ritualistic folk dance from Kerala, known for performing the dance while dressing up as deities or mythical characters, with elaborate, vibrant costumes and masks. 8) Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu)

Bharatanatyam is the dance of Tamil Nadu one of the oldest classical dance forms, where the dancers do this art form with graceful steps and poses that feature precise movements, expressive hand gestures, and elaborate costumes. The dance is mostly performed in the temple as a divine dance.
