Top moments of Paris Olympics closing ceremony

Unlike the unique opening ceremony, the Paris Olympics closing ceremony took place in a more traditional setting at Stade de France

The event began with Leon Marchand carrying the Olympic flame in a lantern from Tuileries Garden to Stade de France

That was followed by an athletes' parade at Stade de France, with all the flag-bearers walking out together followed by the athletes

PR Sreejesh and Manu Bhaker were picked as India’s flag-bearers for the closing ceremony

The closing ceremony also witnessed one final medal handed out — to Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan for winning the women’s marathon in addition to the 5000m and 10000m races

The closing ceremony witnessed a number of artists perform in what was a star-studded affair at Stade de France

Among the artists performing at the closing ceremony was Swiss pianist Alain Roche, who played a piano that was suspended vertically

Phoenix, a French Indie rock band from Versailles, also performed a number of their chart-busters

Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass would later receive the Olympic flag as a symbol of the official handover from Paris to LA

Olympic Rings were raised at Stade de France during the closing ceremony, with performers attacking the individual rings to hooks once by one as part of their routine

The show-stopper, however, was Hollywood mega-star Tom Cruise, who was widely rumoured to perform in the closing ceremony and made an entrance for the ages by abseiling from the stadium’s roof

Cruise would later take the Olympic flag from LA mayor Bass and would ride out of the stadium in a motorcycle

IOC president Thomas Bach, who is set to step down as the Olympic chief next year, declared the Paris 2024 Games “closed” towards the end of the ceremony

The final act of the evening was French singer Yseult performing Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’

That was followed by a round of fireworks to bring the 33rd Summer Olympics to a dazzling conclusion
