Harris widens lead over Trump with boost from women, Hispanics: Reuters/Ipsos Poll

Kamala Harris is widening the lead over Donald Trump in a Reuters/Ipsos poll published on Thursday that showed Harris sparking new enthusiasm among voters & shaking up the race ahead of the November 5 election. Here are some of the key findings from the poll:

Harris has built a small lead over Trump since entering the race on July 21, after Biden withdrew his campaign. Harris was ahead by 4 point (45% to 41%) in the July poll.

Overall Support

Harris has a significant lead among women and Hispanic voters (49% to 36%). Trump leads among white voters and men, but his margin among voters without a college degree has narrowed to 7 points, down from 14 points in July.

Voter Demographics

73% of Democratic voters are more excited to vote with Harris as the nominee, & 52% of her supporters back her personally rather than just opposing Trump. Meanwhile, 64% of Trump voters are motivated more by supporting him than opposing Harris.

Rising Enthusiasm

In the seven states where the 2020 election was closest - Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, Michigan and Nevada - Trump had a 45% to 43% lead over Harris

Battleground States

Voters picked Trump as having a better approach to managing the US economy, 45% to 36%.

Economy

Harris has a strong lead on abortion policy (47% to 31%). Some 41% of voters in the poll - and 70% of Democrats - said they were worried the next president might sign a national ban on abortions.

Abortion Policy

Kennedy's decision to suspend his campaign and endorse Trump could impact the race. Kennedy had the support of 6% of voters in the survey.

Impact of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

In another Reuters/Ipsos poll this week, both Harris & Trump were tied at 40% support each on crime and corruption. Harris has gained ground, having previously trailed Trump by 5 points in the July poll.

Crime and Corruption

The economy is the top issue for 26% of voters, followed by political extremism and threats to democracy (22%), and immigration (13%).

Key Issues for Voters

Harris leads on political extremism and threats to democracy (42% to 36%), while Trump has an edge on immigration (45% to 37%).
