What Is The Controversy Around Hamare Baarah?

Karnataka has banned the release of Hamare Baarah for two weeks or until the next order.

This ban also applies to sharing the movie trailer on media platforms.

Directed by Kamal Chandra, the film which stars actor Annu Kapoor was set for June 7 release.

The Censor Board gave Hamare Baarah a U/A certification and asked the makers to make 11 changes.

Karnataka’s order came after petitions alleged the film shows Muslims in an “insulting manner”.

The release was paused under the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Act.

The order claims that the film's release can cause “possibilities of communal riots”.

It adds that the filmmakers have misinterpreted verses of the Quran.

The plot is about a woman taking her father to court so that her mother can terminate a risky pregnancy.

Annu Kapoor condemned the ban and said no judgment should be passed before a film is released.
