What the Hanuma Vihari-Andhra cricket controversy is all about
Hanuma Vihari, remembered widely for his stonewalling effort in Sydney during the iconic 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, is in the news once again and it’s not for the right reasons
Vihari had last month resigned as Andhra captain, and it was only on Monday that he revealed the reason behind his decision
While Vihari had cited “personal reasons” at the time of resignation, he would on Monday allege that was forced to step down for shouting at a player who happens to be a politician’s son, later identified as Prudhviraj KN
Prudhviraj would later reveal he was the player at the centre of the controversy who had been shouted at by Vihari, and would term the India cricketer’s allegations “absolutely false
Vihari would respond by sharing an image of a letter written by the Andhra team to the ACA denying allegations of Vihari using “foul” language against a player and insisting they still wanted him as captain
Vihari opened up on the incident only after Andhra’s campaign in the ongoing Ranji Trophy came to an end, with a narrow four-run defeat against Madhya Pradesh
It remains to be seen if senior cricketer Vihari is restored as the team’s captain in the following season once the controversy has died down and a solution has been reached
