Electricity Amendment Bill-2022 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 8 amid stiff opposition

The bill enables multiple discom licensing & setting minimum & maximum tariffs

The bill also provides  national & state governments the  power to cut supply from plants if discoms don't give bank guarantees

It also ensures  that discoms abide by Renewable purchase obligations

States will lose control over regulatory bodies due to Centre's intervention

The bill also proposes that  Urban areas will have multiple licensees while loss-making areas will be underserved

The bill also impose universal service obligation on all licensees and allow network sharing for optimum utilisation
