Jain Chacko Uthup, the second husband of Indian pop icon Usha Uthup, died at 78.
He complained of uneasiness while watching TV and was rushed to the hospital.
Born in 1946, Jani Uthup belonged to a Syrian Christian family in Kottayam.
He was associated with the tea plantation sector and worked with J Thomas & Co.
Completing his schooling from Chennai, Jani moved to Kolkata to find work.
The couple first met at Kolkata's iconic Trincas in 1969.
Jani confessed to Ramu, Usha's first husband, that he was in love with the singer.
As per Vikas Kumar Jha's book, Usha told Ramu that she too had feelings for Jani.
Usha and Jani lived quite a private life at their home in Kolkata.
Other than Usha, Jani Uthup is survived by his son Sunny and daughter Anjali.
