Monsoon is often accompanied by more than average hair loss. Here's an explainer on why it happens and a few tips to reduce hair loss.
According to Dr Rinky Kapoor, cosmetic dermatologist and dermato-surgeon from Mumbai, hair fall increases b 30 percent during the rainy season.
"And there is also the problem of oily scalp, dull hair and dandruff during the monsoons," Dr Kapoor told the Times of India.
The increase in hairfall, however, is a temporary phase, doctors say. Dr Jamuna Pai, cosmetic dermatologist, told the publication: “These hair issues during the monsoons are usually temporary."

Tips to reduce hairfall during monsoon
Opt for simplistic hairstyles that won’t need styling products, hair dryers, and straighteners.
Cover your hair while stepping out. During the rains, hair absorbs hydrogen from the atmosphere and swells. It is also the reason why hair gets frizzy during the monsoons.
In case your hair gets wet in the rain, wash it as soon as you can. Rainwater has pollutants and chemicals from the air that damage the hair bulb and clog the follicles.
There is also an increased risk of fungal infections in case your hair gets wet in the rain. washing it immediately after will prevent the growth an spread of fungus.
