Wild animal attacks on pilgrims: Tirupati steps up safety measures

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has taken several steps to ensure the safety of devotees trekking to the temple after a girl was killed by wild animal. Check out new rules and precautions.

Wild beasts attack

TTD takes measures to protect pilgrims from leopards and bears on footpath routes to Tirumala temple.

Children restriction

Pilgrims with children below 15 years can only trek from 5 am to 2 pm. Others can trek till 10 pm.

Two-wheelers ban

Two-wheelers are not allowed on ghat roads from 6 pm to 6 am. TTD appeals for co-operation.

Wooden sticks

TTD provides wooden sticks to each devotee for self-defence. Action against food sellers and dumpers.

Forest staff

TTD appoints forest staff with expertise in tackling wild animals. Devotees allowed in groups with guard.

CCTVs and drones

TTD installs 500 CCTVs in footpath routes. Drone cameras also procured. Wildlife outposts available.

Focus lights

TTD installs focus lights to illuminate 30m area around footpath routes. Signages and cautions placed.

Fencing issue

TTD awaits report from forest authorities on fencing as per Wild Act. No need to scan Divya Darshan tokens.

Girl’s death

Six-year-old girl found dead near Narasimha Swamy temple. Suspected bear attack. Girl went missing twice.
