Will BCCI Continue With 3-1 Retention Rule In IPL 2025?
BCCI hasn't finalised the retention rule for the upcoming IPL season.
Many players will feature at a mega auction ahead of the 2025 edition.
Several franchises want the existing 3-1 (3 retentions and 1 RTM card) rule to persist.
They feel that less retention will make the auction more interesting.
Teams, in general, prefer to keep their core intact by retaining more players.
Regular switch of players won’t let IPL franchises get a loyal fan base.
An official opposed the concept– “We can’t compare IPL fan bases to EPL clubs.”
KKR CEO Venky Mysore reckons 8 RTM cards will increase the buy-back possibility.
Meanwhile, franchises investing in youngsters want more retention options.
The BCCI officials are expected to meet with the IPL team owners soon to address the topic.
